They say he could walk on water and heal the sick and dying.
But he also rose from the dead.
Now if that isn’t reinvention then I don’t know what is?
A humble but influential and dynamic speaker, Jesus Christ won over many converts with his wisdom, his compassion and his charm, but he grew too big too fast and became a thorn in the side of the authorities.
Ultimately he was betrayed by one of his inner circle and captured by the Romans who killed him in a gruesome, tortuous public display.
Three days later, he rose from the grave and is now known world wide as one of the greatest religious and historic figures of the world.
The Mythical golden Phoenix appears in one form or another in all literary and cultural touchstones.
The Phoenix is said to be born of fire, live for 500 years and then be destroyed by fire, to be reduced to ash, then to be reborn and live another 500 years in cycle. There are so many parallels to this story in all of society and culture that it has become one of the most endearing myths of all time.
Apple was moving in a new direction . It was 1985 and the Apple board led by an ambitious chairman feared for the market share they were losing to IBM pc’s and the conflict arising from the challenges dealing the renegade founder of the company. The board sided with the new CEO and Steve Jobs was ousted from the company he founded. He sold all his shares except for one. In one of the greatest business reinventions of all time, he acquired an animation company and founded a new company that would turn out to be one of the foundations of the Mac revitalization 15 years later. Jobs returned to the Apple fold as CEO in 1990 as the company was floundering and helped lead it into the new millenium culminating with the introduction of world and game changing iPod, iPhones and iPads.
These stories tell the three key elements of reinvention. The story of Jesus Christ covers the first part of the story – the establishment of identity, character, success and the subsequent downfall. The myth of the Phoenix covers the death and rebirth. The final part of the troika is the Apple Story, covering the reinvention and redemption.
